Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited on campus, in hostels, or during any college-related activity. The college upholds a zero-tolerance policy toward ragging and ensures that disciplinary action is taken against those found guilty, in accordance with the regulations of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Government of Punjab.

Objective

The primary objective of the Anti-Ragging Policy is to:

  • Eliminate ragging in all forms from educational institutions.

  • Promote a culture of mutual respect, trust, and harmony among students.

  • Ensure the physical and psychological well-being of all students, especially newcomers.

  • Create awareness about the legal, social, and moral implications of ragging.

Definition of Ragging

According to UGC Regulations, “Ragging” includes any act by a student or group of students that causes or is likely to cause:

  • Physical or psychological harm.

  • Fear, shame, embarrassment, or humiliation to another student.

  • Any form of verbal abuse, teasing, or harassment.

  • Forcing a student to perform acts that are degrading, indecent, or contrary to their will.

Ragging is a criminal offense under the law and can result in severe punishment, including expulsion.

Prohibited Conduct

Ragging in any form—verbal, written, psychological, or physical—is prohibited, including but not limited to:

  • Forcing students to perform humiliating or inappropriate acts.

  • Intimidation, teasing, or bullying of junior students.

  • Any act that disrupts the academic environment or personal liberty of another student.

  • Misuse of digital platforms or social media for harassment.

Preventive Measures

GHGC has established strong preventive mechanisms to ensure a ragging-free campus, including:

  • Orientation Programs: Awareness sessions for freshers and senior students at the beginning of the academic year.

  • Display of Policy: Anti-ragging posters and helpline numbers displayed prominently across the campus and hostels.

  • Anti-Ragging Committee & Squad: A dedicated committee monitors student behavior, conducts surprise checks, and ensures immediate action against complaints.

  • Undertakings: All students and their parents must submit an anti-ragging affidavit at the time of admission, confirming compliance with UGC regulations.

Disciplinary Actions

Any student found involved in ragging activities shall face strict disciplinary action, which may include:

  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.

  • Debarment from examinations or campus facilities.

  • Expulsion from the college or hostel.

  • Legal action as per Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 323, 506, 294, 341, 342, and 120B and UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations, 2009.

How to Report Ragging

Students who experience or witness ragging can report the incident through the following channels:

  • Directly contact the Principal or Anti-Ragging Committee.

  • Use the college helpline numbers or email address displayed on the notice boards.

  • File a complaint anonymously if desired; confidentiality is maintained.
